4-MethylmorpholineN-oxideHydrate is a chemical compound with the molecular formula CHNO. It is a monohydrate of 4-methylmorpholine and has antimicrobial activity. 4-MethylmorpholineN-oxideHydrate is synthesized by reacting carbon disulfide with ammonia, followed by hydrogenation of the resulting intermediate. The compound has been used in plant physiology experiments to demonstrate its ability to form hydrogen bonds with cellulose and other polymers. 4-MethylmorpholineN-oxideHydrate also has the ability to react with acids to form acid complexes that are stable in water. The rate of formation of these complexes increases as the pH decreases, which may be due to an increase in the concentration of hydroxyl ions as pH decreases.
Molecules like this one have diameters that range from 2.2 Angstroms (Å) at room temperature to 3 Å at high temperatures, and their formation rates increase as the temperature increases
