Beschreibung

8-Ethoxymoxifloxacin (8EMOX) is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic with potent activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which maintain the integrity of bacterial DNA. 8EMOX has been shown to be effective against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Clostridium perfringens, although is not active against acid-fast bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex. 8EMOX binds to the 16S ribosomal RNA of bacteria by competitive inhibition, leading to cell death by inhibiting protein production. 8EMOX also inhibits prostaglandin synthesis through its inhibitory effect on cyclooxygenase enzymes.
