b-Estradiol is a hormone that belongs to the class of estrogens. It is used in therapy groups to treat breast cancer and other diseases. b-Estradiol has been shown to have synergistic effects with nomegestrol acetate, which may be due to its ability to induce cell death through redox potential changes. This drug also inhibits neuronal death by increasing the expression of cell factor and decreasing the expression of human cyp3a4, both of which are genes involved in apoptosis. b-Estradiol has been shown to inhibit the development of oxidative stress in vivo in a model system involving rats with brain injury induced by an intracranial balloon catheter.
