4-Ethyl-5-fluoro-6-hydroxypyrimidine is a fluorine containing pyrimidine derivative that is used in pharmaceuticals and other organic syntheses. It is an important intermediate in the synthesis of aprepitant, a drug used to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy. 4-Ethyl-5-fluoro-6-hydroxypyrimidine has been shown to exhibit high yield when it is synthesized in the presence of formamide and propionyl chloride.
