Beschreibung

2-Ethylthio-1-propanol is a nonionic surfactant with a hypoglycemic effect. It is synthesized from ethyl mercaptan and propylene oxide. The molecular weight of this compound ranges from 160 to 200 g/mol. 2-Ethylthio-1-propanol is an amphoteric substance, meaning that it has both acidic and basic properties. It has been used as a reagent in the synthesis of other substances, such as phenols and esters, and can be used in the production of detergents. 2-Ethylthio-1-propanol has also been shown to have an antihyperglycemic effect in mice, which may be due to its ability to decrease carbohydrate absorption and improve glucose tolerance by increasing insulin sensitivity.
