It is structurally unrelated to other CB2 receptor ligands, and has been shown to act as a selective, low affinity antagonist of the epidermal growth factor receptor. ESP has also been shown to be an ATP binding cassette transporter substrate and acts as a voltage sensor in whole cell recordings. ESP has potential therapeutic applications in diabetic neuropathy and chronic pain.
