Ethyl 5,6-dihydro-4H-pyrrolo[1,2-b]pyrazole-2-carboxylate is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed in vivo to its active form. It has an efficient method and can be synthesized in high yield. The bicyclic heteroaryl is stable under alkaline conditions and resists hydrolysis. This compound has been used to synthesize the isomeric mixture of pyrrolopyrimidine carboxylic acid esters and as a precursor for the synthesis of other heteroaromatic compounds.
