2-Ethynylnaphthalene is an aromatic hydrocarbon that inhibits the enzymatic activity of the p-450 enzyme, which is involved in the metabolism of xenobiotics. The inhibition of this enzyme results in a decrease in the production of reactive oxygen species and a decrease in lipid peroxidation. 2-Ethynylnaphthalene also has inhibitory effects on other enzymes such as 7-ethoxycoumarin O-demethylase, which is involved in the metabolism of coumarin derivatives. This compound can be classified as a chemical inhibitor because it binds to its target molecule and prevents it from reacting with other molecules. 2-Ethynylnaphthalene also has uv absorption properties, which are used to measure its concentrations.
