Electrolysis reactions for the synthesis of 1-ethyl-2-methylindole are also possible. Mechanistic studies have shown that this reaction occurs via a transfer process involving the intermediacy of a model complex, which is a transient intermediate in the formation of 1,4 dichlorobenzene from 1,2 dichlorobenzene and ethyl nitrite.
