Ethyl 2-bromo-2-methylpropanoate is a diphenyl ether and is used as an intermediate in organic synthesis. It has been shown to have anti-fungal properties by inhibiting the growth of cryptococcus neoformans. The kinetic for the reaction of copper chloride with ethyl 2-bromo-2-methylpropanoate has been determined by measuring the rate of disappearance of the copper complex, which was found to be first order in both reactants. The magnetic resonance spectroscopy group p2 was observed at 1.9 ppm for the copper complex, and this signal disappeared when ethyl 2-bromo-2-methylpropanoate was added to the reaction solution. Ferrocenecarboxylic acid and sodium carbonate were also observed in this experiment.
