Erucifoline is a retrorsine derivative that has been shown to have dose-dependent effects on the activity of protein synthesis in animals. The chemical diversity of erucifoline and related compounds is due to the n-oxide moiety, which varies in position and number. This diversity allows for the development of new drugs with novel chemical structures that are active against bacteria. Erucifoline can be detected by LC-MS/MS using a sample preparation method that includes extraction, liquid-liquid partitioning, and clean up with an octadecyl silica column. It can also be used as an analytical method for evaluation of chemical structure.
