Beschreibung

2-Ethyl-3(5 or 6)-dimethylpyrazine is a mixture of isomers that is used in the biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids and related products. 2-Ethyl-3(5 or 6)-dimethylpyrazine is produced by the reaction of phenylacetic acid with acetone and can be isolated from natural sources such as kidney beans and hexane. This compound has been shown to inhibit l-threonine production in mammalian cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of fatty acids. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy has revealed that 2-Ethyl-3(5 or 6)-dimethylpyrazine binds to diphenyl ether, a chemical that is used extensively in pesticides and herbicides.
