Everolimus is a calcineurin inhibitor that has been approved for the treatment of cancers. It inhibits the activity of an enzyme called phosphatase, which is involved in the activation of T cells. Everolimus binds to plasma proteins and can be detected in serum or plasma by liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry (LC-MS). The detection time is around one day. LC-MS can also be used for sample pretreatment and chromatographic separation before analysis. Immunosuppressants such as Everolimus are used to prevent rejection of transplanted organs, tissues, or cells. They work by suppressing the immune response. The drug also reduces hematocrit levels and increases erythrocyte counts.
