Beschreibung

Ethoxyquin is a molecule that is used as a dietary antioxidant and as an analytical method in the food industry. It is also used to treat wastewater and drinking water. Ethoxyquin has been shown to be a model system for understanding how antioxidants can affect enzyme activities and metabolic disorders in humans. The chemical structure of ethoxyquin is very similar to that of pantothenic acid, which is a vitamin found in most living cells. When ethoxyquin reacts with calcium pantothenate, it produces reactive oxygen species (ROS) and free radicals, which may cause liver lesions.
