Ethyl 4-chlorobutyrate is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of pyrazoles. It is used in organic synthesis as a reagent for the conversion of carbonyl groups into chlorides and bromides, as well as for the production of polyclonal antibodies. The Friedel-Crafts reaction can be carried out using ethyl 4-chlorobutyrate, which will convert a nitro group into an oxide group. This procedure can be used to synthesize oximes from carboxylic acids or amines. Ethyl 4-chlorobutyrate also reacts with inorganic acids such as hydrochloric acid to form ethyl chloride and hydrogen chloride gas.
