Beschreibung

Ethyl ferrocene is a disulfonate that has been used as a substrate for glucose monitoring. It has been shown to reduce the redox potential of glucose, which can be measured using a voltameter in vitro. The enzyme glucose oxidase reacts with glucose and oxygen to produce hydrogen peroxide, which is reduced by ferrocene to form water. Ethyl ferrocene also reacts with amido groups to produce ethylenediamine, which can be detected by spectroscopy or chemiluminescence. This reaction is used in the synthesis of some drugs such as acetazolamide and nitroglycerin. Ethyl ferrocene has also been used as an organometallic compound in the acylation reaction of aromatic hydrocarbons, such as benzaldehyde or phenylamine, with acetic anhydride or propionic anhydride.
