3-(Ethylthio)propanol is a diluent that is used in the preparation of various drugs. 3-(Ethylthio)propanol has an affinity for the H1 histamine receptor and can be used as an intranasal decongestant. It is also used to lower the oral bioavailability of other drugs, such as ethyl decanoate, octanoate, phenylethyl acetate, and anthranilate. 3-(Ethylthio)propanol has a low evaporation rate, which makes it useful as a diluent for liquid medications that are given by injection or by inhalation.
