5-Ethoxyindole is a reactive molecule that has been shown to react with the dopamine receptor D2. The compound has also been shown to be a ligand for the D2 receptor. 5-Ethoxyindole binds to the D2 receptor by forming an intermolecular hydrogen bond. This binding causes conformational changes in the receptor, leading to activation of downstream signaling pathways and subsequent release of dopamine from synaptic vesicles. 5-Ethoxyindole has also been shown to interact with the piperidine binding site on the D2 receptor, which may lead to increased activity at this site.
