Beschreibung

Ethyl 5-methoxyindole-2-carboxylate (EMIC) is a derivative of the antibiotic mitomycin. EMIC inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit and preventing protein synthesis. It has been shown to be active against gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, and Bacillus subtilis. This drug also exhibits antibacterial activity against gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium. EMIC is an analogue of mitomycin C, which can be used in place of this drug for certain treatments.
