The reaction mechanism for this process is not yet understood. 4-Ethyltoluene also has been shown to have low toxicity for redox cycling reactions in biological treatment systems, as well as an affinity for polymorphonuclear leucocytes. 4-Ethyltoluene can be found in small amounts in water vapor and it has kinetic data determined at 25 degrees Celsius.
