Beschreibung

Kanamycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that has been used in the treatment of infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, pneumonia, and sepsis. It inhibits protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes and preventing their attachment to messenger RNA. Kanamycin is also used in some cases of inflammatory diseases and liver disease. When taken orally, kanamycin produces a high plasma concentration of ammonia and urea nitrogen levels due to its inhibitory effect on the enzyme urease found in the stomach. This drug also has an inhibitory effect on peroneal nerve function, which can be reversed with monoclonal antibody therapy. Kanamycin may have a protective effect against cirrhosis induced by thiamine deficiency or alcoholic liver disease due to its ability to increase plasma glucose and fatty acid levels.
