It has been used as an analytical marker for the detection of irradiation, and can also be detected in atypical samples using mass spectrometry. 3-Fluorovaline is not a natural amino acid, but it is produced during protein synthesis under conditions of radiation damage or by enzymatic reactions. The linear range for 3-fluorovaline is from 0.1 to 10 µM, and its detection limit is 0.2 µM. 3-Fluorovaline can be used as an internal standard for propranolol hydrochloride in mass spectrometry analysis and as an analytical marker for the determination of glutamic acid, n-methyl-l-alanine and hypoglycin A levels in fruits and vegetables.
