Beschreibung

Sodium picosulfate is a laxative that can be taken orally. It binds to citrate and forms sodium citrate, which is a weak base. This compound then reacts with the anhydrous form of 2-fluoro-3-(trifluoromethyl)phenylacetonitrile (FTFPCN), forming a soluble complex. Binding agent binds to this complex, forming a solid dosage form. This process is called permeation and decoloration. The laxative effect of sodium picosulfate is due to its ability to increase fecal water content by binding water molecules in the intestinal tract. Sodium picosulfate also has a reaction sequence with magnesium, forming insoluble magnesium picosulfate and pyridine, which is an aromatic organic compound that has been used as an analgesic and sedative drug.
