Beschreibung

Lipanthyl is a drug that has been approved for the treatment of certain types of cancer. It is a fatty acid derivative and it inhibits the growth of tumor cells by binding to their DNA. Lipanthyl binds to the DNA at specific sites, which prevents the production of proteins vital for cell division. The terminal half-life of Lipanthyl in human serum is about 3 hours. The drug is metabolized by hydrolysis to form adriamycin, which is inactive in humans. Lipanthyl has also been shown to have antitumour activity against fat cell lines in culture and has been used in clinical trials as a diagnostic agent for measuring fat content in tissue samples.
