Fenamiphos is a broad-spectrum nematicide that inhibits the acetylcholinesterase enzyme in the nervous system of nematodes. It has been shown to have a high resistance and low toxicity to mammals. Fenamiphos is used as an agricultural insecticide, with a wide range of applications, from soil fumigation and seed dressing to surface treatment for control of soil-borne pests. Fenamiphos can be applied by spraying, dusting, or spreading. The nematode species susceptible to fenamiphos are inhibited by the accumulation of acetylcholine at synapses in the neuromuscular junction, leading to paralysis and death. Fenamiphos also has been shown to have biochemical properties that inhibit energy metabolism and matrix effects on biological studies.
