Fenamiphos sulfoxide (FSO) is a growth regulator that inhibits the growth of nematodes and other soil-borne pests. It has been used as an on-line nematicide in the cotton industry, but can also be applied to other crops such as corn. FSO is extracted from methanol by liquid chromatography. The extraction process is based on a phase separation method that separates organic compounds into two phases: one containing water, and the other containing organic solvents. Fenamiphos sulfoxide is typically analyzed using a chromatographic method with a mineralization step. This analytical method uses an acidified solution of sodium hydroxide to convert FS0 into its corresponding sulfoxide, which can then be measured by gas chromatography or liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry.
