Beschreibung

Fluvastatin is a cholesterol-lowering drug that belongs to the class of statins. It is an inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG CoA) reductase, which is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of HMG CoA to mevalonic acid. Fluvastatin reduces the production of cholesterol by inhibiting this enzyme and thereby reducing the amount of free cholesterol in cells. Fluvastatin has been shown to have a number of physiological effects, such as inhibition of receptor activity and enzyme activities. It also can cause drug interactions with other drugs, such as erythromycin and cimetidine, which are metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes.
