Fumaric acid is a dicarboxylic acid that is used in the treatment of bowel disease. This compound is a fumarate, which means it has two carboxylic acid groups and one hydroxyl group. Fumaric acid reacts with copper chloride to form water vapor, which can be toxic if inhaled.
