It prevents the action of auxins, which are compounds that promote cell elongation, by inhibiting their binding to the auxin receptor and thereby blocking the signal transduction pathway. 2-Fluoro-6-(trifluoromethyl)benzoic acid has been shown to be effective in increasing dry weight of rice and soybean plants, as well as stimulating root development in maize seedlings.
