Beschreibung:3-Fluoro-4-hydroxybenzoic acid is a metabolite of benzoate in microorganisms. It has been shown to be an inhibitor of the enzyme β-ketoacyl CoA synthase, which is responsible for fatty acid synthesis. 3-Fluoro-4-hydroxybenzoic acid binds to the active site of the enzyme and prevents the formation of acyl coenzyme A from acetyl CoA and malonyl CoA, thereby inhibiting fatty acid synthesis. This compound also binds to the nonheme iron in the enzyme, preventing its oxidation by protonation.
