Beschreibung

2-Fluorotoluene is a colorless liquid with a sweet odor that is soluble in water and organic solvents. It is used for the production of diazo compounds and analytical reagents, as well as in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and pesticides. 2-Fluorotoluene can be prepared by reacting chlorine gas or hydrogen chloride with toluene in a reaction vessel containing an inert atmosphere. The product has been shown to react with diazonium salts to form acylation products, which are useful for analytical methods such as infrared spectroscopy or nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.
2-Fluorotoluene can also be prepared by reacting sodium metal with hydrochloric acid, followed by adding anhydrous sodium carbonate to remove water from the reaction mixture.
