2-Fluoro-6-methylpyridine is a halogenated pyridine. It reacts with iodotrimethylsilane and bromotrimethylsilane to form 2-chloro-6-methylpyridine and 2-bromo-6-methylpyridine respectively. 2-Fluoro-6-methylpyridine is a heterocyclic compound that can serve as a precursor for the synthesis of other compounds with the addition of catalysts, such as sodium hypochlorite. Compounds containing this chemical group have been found in various plants, including Fagopyrum esculentum Moench (buckwheat).
