• Beschreibung: 6-Fluoro-2-methylindanone is a synthetic, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It is a potent inhibitor of prostaglandin synthesis, and has been shown to reduce the formation of polyps in the colon. The mechanism of action is not fully understood, but it has been proposed that 6-Fluoro-2-methylindanone may inhibit prostaglandin synthesis by blocking the cyclooxygenase enzyme. This drug is prepared by Friedel-Crafts acylation of malonate with acetonitrile and chloride in an oxidised solution containing sodium hypochlorite. The reaction solution is then dehydrated with propionate to produce 6-fluoro-2 methylindanone.
