Formyl-DL-Trp-OH is also an inhibitor of the enzyme amide hydrolysis in the metabolism of tryptophan. This drug can be used as a substrate in clinical chemistry for measuring amide hydrolysis. The binding constants of this compound have been determined using ultraviolet absorption and hydrogen bond measurements. This drug can be used in chromatographic methods to separate n-acetyl-dl-tryptophan from other related compounds in urine samples.
