Beschreibung

5-Fluoro-4-Thio-2'-Deoxyuridylate is a competitive inhibitor of thymidylate synthase. It has been shown to inhibit the enzymatic activity of this enzyme and prevent the formation of nucleotides in cells. 5-Fluoro-4-Thio-2'-Deoxyuridylate binds to the active site of the enzyme and prevents the reaction from occurring by blocking access to its substrate, uridine. 5FDU is a congener for 5FU, which is an anticancer drug that is used in chemotherapy. 5FDU inhibits muscle cell growth and can be used as a potential treatment for muscular dystrophy. The mechanism of action for this drug is a nucleophilic attack on the sulfur atom in the enzyme's active site.
