Beschreibung

2-(4-Fluoro-phenyl)-quinoline-4-carboxylic acid is an antibacterial agent that belongs to the group of quinolones. It is a yellow crystalline solid with a melting point of 195 degrees Celsius. This compound has been shown to be effective against staphylococcus, but not aureus strains. 2-(4-Fluoro-phenyl)-quinoline-4-carboxylic acid binds to bacterial ribosomes and inhibits protein synthesis, leading to cell death by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division. The fluorescence spectra are in the visible range (λmax = 325 nm) and can be used as an indicator for its presence in solution. Elemental analysis shows this compound contains no cadmium or mercury impurities. Diffraction data was collected on single crystals of this compound using x-ray diffractometry at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. This compound also has antimicrobial activity
