Beschreibung

(S)-6-Fluoro-3,4-dihydro-2H-1-benzopyran-2-carboxylic acid is a phenol compound that can be synthesized by the Friedel-Crafts reaction of benzyl chloride with (S)-phenol. The synthesis requires an optically pure catalyst, such as platinum oxide or palladium on charcoal. The process is carried out in two steps: first, the benzyl chloride is converted to benzyl alcohol and then this alcohol reacts with sodium hydroxide to form the desired product. Nebivolol hydrochloride is a prodrug of nebivolol that is metabolized to its active form by esterases and glucuronidases. It is used for the treatment of hypertension and angina pectoris. Nebivolol hydrochloride has been shown to reduce heart rate and blood pressure.
