• Beschreibung: Glycerol trinitrate is a nitric oxide donor. It is used in the treatment of congestive heart failure, as well as in the prevention and treatment of acute attacks of angina pectoris. Glycerol trinitrate is also used to prevent and treat bowel disease, such as inflammatory bowel disease and diverticulitis. Glycerol trinitrate has been shown to inhibit mitochondrial functions by inhibiting oxidative phosphorylation, leading to an accumulation of glycerol, which can be toxic for mitochondria. Experimental studies have shown that glycerol trinitrate inhibits autoimmune diseases and bowel diseases by lowering cytosolic calcium levels.
