• Beschreibung: Glutaraldehyde is a disinfectant and antimicrobial agent that is used as a preservative, sterilizer, and topical antiseptic. It is an effective antibacterial agent against most bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Glutaraldehyde has been shown to be toxic to humans at concentrations of 50% or higher. The cytotoxic effects of glutaraldehyde are due to its ability to modify the cytosolic Ca2+ concentration in human cells and inhibit cell growth. This chemical can also produce significant cytotoxicity in chitosan polymer toxicity studies and inhibit the formation of benzalkonium chloride byproducts from benzalkonium chloride disinfectants.
