Beschreibung

Glyoxal is a reactive dialdehyde that is used in the synthesis of pharmaceutical preparations, such as anti-inflammatory drugs. It can be hydrolyzed by alkalis to form glycolaldehyde diethyl acetal, which is a useful acylating agent in the synthesis of peptides. Glyoxal has been shown to inhibit chemokine production and inflammatory responses in animal models. The inhibitory effect of glyoxal on chemokine production may be due to its ability to inhibit phosphodiesterase activity, which leads to an increase in cyclic adenosine monophosphate levels and subsequent activation of protein kinase A. This process also inhibits the production of TNF-α and IL-1β, which are cytokines that play a key role in inflammation.
