Geranyl acetate inhibits the growth of Candida glabrata and squamous cells by interfering with the cell membrane, leading to leakage of intracellular components and death. This compound has a reaction mechanism similar to eugenol, which is also an anti-fungal agent. Geranyl acetate binds to alcohol dehydrogenase in the cell wall, inhibiting its function and thereby preventing synthesis of ATP.
