Beschreibung

Gambogic acid is an autophagy inducer that has anti-cancer activity. Gambogic acid induces apoptosis by inhibiting the synthesis of proteins, lipids and nucleic acids in tumour cells. It also inhibits the growth of solid tumours by inducing apoptosis in cancer cells. Gambogic acid is a cyclic peptide with a molecular weight of 694.5 Da and a monosodium salt at pH 7.0. The molecular structure of gambogic acid was determined using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and X-ray crystallography. In addition to its anticancer effects, gambogic acid has been found to have antibacterial properties against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae, as well as antifungal properties against Candida albicans.
