- N~2~-[(benzyloxy)carbonyl]-alpha-glutamine
Z-L-glutamic acid a-amide is a thioacetal that is radiolabeled with technetium-99m. It can be used as a diagnostic agent for the detection of pancreatic cancer in porcine tissue. This compound is made from glutamic acid and ammonia and has an acidic pH. Z-L-glutamic acid a-amide is also used as a ligand for diagnostic purposes, with radionuclides such as technetium-99m or indium-111. The compound has been shown to have high affinity for the receptor site on the pancreatic cells, which are closely associated with the pancreas gland. Radionuclide strategies are being investigated to detect pancreatic cancer by targeting this specific tumor type with radionuclides that can be localized using positron emission tomography (PET) imaging techniques.
