Beschreibung

1-Hydroxy-3,5-dimethyladamantane is a stereochemically pure compound that can be produced by a simple alkaline hydrolysis of methyl adamantane. The product contains the same amount of hydrogen and oxygen as in the starting material. It is an intermediate in the production of other compounds such as methylacetoacetate or methylpropanoate. 1-Hydroxy-3,5-dimethyladamantane is an organic solvent with high water absorption properties, which can be used for the transfer of hydride from organic bases to formic acid. This process yields 1,1'-dihydroxyadamantane and formic acid in high yield.
