It has been shown to exhibit potent antibacterial activity against a variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The most potent activity was observed against the pseudomonadaceae and dendrobatidae. In addition to its antimicrobial properties 2DHTP exhibits immunosuppressant activities in uninfected animals. This compound also has the ability to inhibit batrachochytrium dendrobatidis and chytridiomycosis in frogs.
