Beschreibung

Misoprostol is a prostaglandin analogue that acts as a prodrug to release the active form, misoprostol acid. Misoprostol has been shown to be effective in the prevention of NSAID-induced gastric and duodenal ulcers. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and may be used for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and other gastrointestinal disorders. Misoprostol's ability to induce labor contractions makes it useful for managing postpartum hemorrhage, cervical ripening before induction of labour or caesarean section, and induction of labour where uterine inertia exists.
Misoprostol is used in combination with mifepristone to terminate an early pregnancy up to 49 days from the last menstrual period.
