7-Hydroxy-4-propyl-2H-chromen-2-one is a coumarin derivative that inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It produces an incremental effect on cancer cells, and does not affect normal cells. The mechanism of action for 7-hydroxy-4-propyl-2H-chromen-2-one is unknown, but it may inhibit cellular processes such as DNA synthesis and protein synthesis. 7-Hydroxy-4 propyl chromen 2 one has been found in tobacco plants, and is used in organic solvents. This compound can be used to produce liposomes, which are small vesicles with a lipid bilayer membrane. These vesicles can be used as drug delivery systems for cancer treatment or to deliver drugs to other parts of the body.
