Beschreibung

Hexamidine diisethionate is a synergistic compound that has been used as a model system to study the effects of benzalkonium chloride on mammalian DNA. It is also used as an antimicrobial agent in products such as skin care and polymerase chain reactions, which can be found in laboratories and hospitals. Hexamidine diisethionate works by reacting with the nitrogen atoms of organic molecules to form nitrosamines, which are reactive and highly cytotoxic. These nitrosamines inhibit the DNA polymerase of human pathogens and other microorganisms, preventing their growth. They also prevent glycol esters from being hydrolyzed to glycols, which would cause them to be toxic themselves.
