Beschreibung

6b-Hydroxycortisol is a metabolite of cortisol and an intermediate in the synthesis of aldosterone. It is produced by the enzyme 11-beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (11βHSD1). 6b-Hydroxydexosterone has been shown to be present at physiological levels in the blood, and it is excreted in urine at concentrations that are proportional to its production rate. The concentration-time curve for 6b-hydroxydexosterone is similar to that for cortisol, with a peak at about 2 hours after administration. Plasma levels of 6b-hydroxydexosterone are increased in patients with bowel disease, and mouse monoclonal antibody against this metabolite has been shown to reduce inflammation in mice with bowel disease.
