2-Hydroxy-3-methylbenzamide is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is used to treat pain and inflammation caused by arthritis or other joint diseases. It works by blocking the production of prostaglandins, which are chemicals that promote inflammation. 2-Hydroxy-3-methylbenzamide has been shown to be effective in animal models, but there are no studies on humans with arthritis. This drug is not recommended for people with an active peptic ulcer, gastritis, or gastroenteritis because it may increase stomach acid and make these conditions worse. It should also not be taken during pregnancy because it may cause birth defects. 2-Hydroxy-3-methylbenzamide is available as tablets or capsules and can be taken with food.
